Thinking about the Queen’s funeral.

Today I have spent much of the day- probably just like many of you- watching the Queen’s funeral and was struck by a couple of thoughts. 

Whether royalist or not, we all have times when grief and loss affect us. And today may have been one of those occasions that a wave of loss or grief may have crept up on you, leaving you feeling sad. This sadness of loss is perfectly normal. It is, as the Queen said to the American president after September 11,  said, the price we pay for love. It is good to have times when we reflect on the lives we have known, and the people who are no longer with us. I hope you have people you can share that with. My other thought was more celebratory. Listening to people talk about our Queen’s life reminds us that age is not a barrier to serving, loving, and caring for the people around us. Queen Elizabeth lived a life of service, love, and of care for the people for over 70 years. In a world that tends to celebrate youth, we need to regularly remind ourselves that age is not a barrier to usefulness. That no matter our age, we can share our time, our talents, and experiences for the benefit of others. And that is the MYsocial way.

Now, isn’t that something for us to celebrate?
