Becoming a Cavi Hero!

This week myself and members of MYsocial had the pleasure of visiting Cavendish Lodge Nursery in Streatham. A strange visit for a social events service you ask? Think again! We were there to discover more about the Caviheroes Project. Caviheroes is the brainchild of Paul at the family run Cavendish Lodge Nursery. He realised, as we all have here at MYsocial, that the older generation has a rich tapestry of knowledge and experience that younger generations can really benefit from. We forget that the reality for very young children, born in the pandemic, is that older people and even their own Grandparents are a fairly new concept. After all, no one could see others from outside their home for months!
So this Nursery is offering more mature members of the community an opportunity to earn extra with a part time/flexible role in their nursery – to become a Cavihero! Maybe it’s by sharing a good book with the children. Talking with them, listening to their interests, sparking their imagination with a game from your own childhood..or even helping to look after the resident ducks! We met the delightful owners and staff at this second in a series of relaxed coffee mornings where we discussed the Caviheroes project over tea and delicious cakes. Definitely a winning start! This nursery is a bright space with a really homely atmosphere. We are proud to say there are already MYsocial members who have joined the family via this project … & it really is shaping up to be a family affair! We love that our members are making connections at our events and even renewing old ones. A couple of our members had surprising family connections to current staff and friend’s children had passed through the nursery over the years. This is a promising beginning & we’re fairly certain there will be a new cohort of MYsocial members working or volunteering with Cavendish Lodge very soon!
